Lyrics ban prejudiced
published: Saturday | November 20, 2004
THE EDITOR Sir:I HAVE read a lot about the various artistes' performances being cancelled due to their lyrics being seen as inciting violence on all sorts of people.
The odd thing is that this ban is only on blacks and West Indians. When Eminem did it, no ban was given. There is also a host of other prominent singers and actors and prominent businesses, politicians and sports people who do it, but it is washed away as just speech.
While I do not condone violence in any manner, why is there one rule for the white and rich and one for the black. It is time these black artistes look at other black gangster singers who get away with it due to their strong money influence.
We blacks need to promote and stand by each other more and speak up more. Time for this imperialistic and capitalistic attitude to stop. Wake up now.
I am, etc.,
