AS THE nation bemoans the Reggae Boyz' failure to advance in the World Cup campaign, the national Under-17 footballers will aim to keep their dreams alive today when they host Haiti at the National Stadium in the first of a two-match series, in the second round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) World Championship qualifiers.
Today's game kicks-off at 5:00 p.m. following the Manning Cup final between Excelsior and Calabar. The second leg will be played on Monday at Prison Oval at 3:00 p.m.
ALL THE WAY
Coached by Patrick 'Jackie' Walters, the team is favoured to go all the way with talents such as Keammar Daley, Omroy Wilson and Draion McNain in the line up.
"We know we have a pretty good team and are confident ahead of today's contest," said Walters. "I saw Haiti play some time ago and they looked good so it will be an evenly contested match."
The Young Boyz cruised through the first round, trouncing Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands and Grenada. Victory over Haiti will see them advancing to the final of the CONCACAF Under-17 qualification round along with the winner of the Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago series.
FINAL STAGE
Canada and Costa Rica will each host a group for the final stage of the CONCACAF Under-17 qualification, where three teams will advance to the FIFA Under-17 World Championship in Peru next year.
