Gun, ammo found in raid

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

THE St. Catherine South Police, who carried out a pre-dawn raid along with personnel from the Caribbean Search Centre on premises in the Succaba Pen area of Old Harbour, have reported the recovery of a rifle and several rounds of ammunition yesterday.

The police said during the operation, premises on School Lane was searched and a Hi Point 9mm rifle ­ serial number A78488 ­ equipped with a telescopic lens and an assortment of 167 rounds of ammunition were recovered. A stick of dynamite was also discovered. The rounds were reportedly found in a paint bucket filled with cornmeal.

Five of the men who have been taken into custody have been charged with breaches of the firearm act. The police said the names of the men will be withheld pending the investigations.

According to CCN Liaison Officer for St. Catherine South Jacqueline Brown, the find has brought to 67, the number of firearms recovered since the start of the year.
