Gun recovered after shoot-out
published: Tuesday | November 23, 2004

A RUNNING gun battle between a group of Flying Squad detectives and gunmen in the Waterhouse community of West St. Andrew, Sunday night, ended with a police sergeant being shot and injured and an illegal shotgun seized.

The injured policeman has been identified as Detective Sergeant Andrew Hill, who was treated at hospital and released.

Reports are that shortly after 10:00 p.m., a police party was on patrol in the White Lane area of Waterhouse when a group of about three men was seen. It is alleged that on the approach of the lawmen, the gunmen started shooting. The detectives responded by returning the fire.

After the shootings, the police found a Remington shotgun which the men left behind.

In a separate incident, two men were arrested and charged in connection with another illegal gun that was also found in the Waterhouse area on Sunday night.

Charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition are Mark Harrison, 22, of Four Forty Drive and Carlos McLean, 17, of Unity Drive, both of Waterhouse. It is alleged that a Parabellum 9-mm semi-automatic pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition were found in Harrison's possession, while seven 9-mm rounds were found in McLean's possession.
