14 yearlings sold for $500,000

WHILE FIVE young horses fetched prices of $1 million and over in the November 14 Thoroughbred Yearling Sale at Caymanas Park, as many as 14 were sold for prices in the $500,000 range.

The sale topper was a chestnut colt by Royal Minister out of Secret Pleasure purchased by TOBA president Howard Hamilton for $2 million. The yearling was bred by HAM Stables Limited of which Hamilton is a part-owner.

Yearlings going under the hammer in the half-million dollar range are as follows:

Lot 164, a bay filly by Alisios out of the Toyota Cup and 1000 Guineas winner Ray Of Hope bred by Eddie Chai and Dr. Francis Barnett sold for $530,000.

Lot 32, a chestnut colt by Royal Minister ­ Caribbean Reggae bred by Joseph and Shirley McKessey sold for $500,000.

Lot 53, grey filly by Law Of The Sea out of Quiet War bred by Argyll Farms ­ $500,000.

Lot 60, chestnut filly by Royal Minister ­ Pleasant Company bred by Orange Valley Estates Limited sold for $500,000.

Lot 64, chestnut colt by Alisios ­ Hail To Glory bred by Spring Park Stud Farm sold for $500,000.

Lot 96, chestnut filly Royal Minister ­ Ad Ma'am, bred by Andrew Azar sold for $500,000.

Lot 108, chestnut colt Alisios ­ Glorious Line, bred by Andrew Azar sold for $500,000.

Lot 115, bay filly by Law Of The Sea ­ Believing, bred by Andrew Azar sold for $500,000.

Lot 135, bay filly Pat N Jac ­ Bold Queen, bred by Orange Valley Estates sold for $500,000.

Lot 144, bay colt Law Of The Sea ­ Code Star, bred by HAM Stables Limited sold for $500,000.

Lot 152, chestnut filly Royal Minister ­ Studu-Lanu bred by Robert Gore and Noel Levy sold for $500,000.

Lot 155, bay filly Law Of The Sea ­ Zaza bred by Owen and Solomon Sharpe sold for $500,000.

Lot 162, bay filly Law Of The Sea ­ Star Spangled Girl bred by Jalil Dabdoub sold for $500,000.

Lot 163, chestnut filly Alisios ­ Executive Profile bred by Winston Kong sold for $500,000.

In all, 37 yearlings were sold for prices in excess of $500,000. As many as 144 of the 184 lots offered went under the hammer, but a significant number of these were 'buy backs', especially many of those in the high price ranges.
