Raising a stink
published: Thursday | November 25, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Several months ago, I complained about problems I was having since the Adventist Church decided to set up shop next door to my apartment. The day the letter was published, I received a visit from a member of the church who gave some undertakings, many of which the individuals working on the site ignored. My complaints about the poison from the crane did not stop it from running one night until 10:14 p.m., and despite calling the member who visited me, it ran the following night until 9:25 p.m.

Here's how things have progressed. Just recently, they concluded a crusade there. It ran for four weeks, during which period they preached next door, in noise so loud I had hot flashes. When the crusade concluded, we thought there would be a little peace, only for them to move their toilets under our windows. (During the crusade, the toilets were closer to their tents.)

Now, I have the smell from the latrines, all over my house, in addition to the dust and poison from carbon monoxide. I am calling on the KSAC to visit the site and see for themselves where the toilets are. While you are looking, look up, it's a house for God's sake.

This is no longer a joke, it is a human rights issue, and I am going to make sure that every rights group, local and international, be apprised of this situation. What would also be interesting is for NEPA to test the air quality from our home and make the findings public. Now I know why the rule of might in this country takes precedence over the rule of right.

I am, etc.,

ERICA VIRTUE
