THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE MOST important day in the lives of Jamaicans is, believe it or not, election day. Thank God it is only once every five years.
The tension, hype, and fear, leading to that day oozes adrenaline. Politics is numero uno in Jamaica, and the two main political parties that have governed this rock over the years have brought us more despair than hope due to indiscipline and corruption, hence the terminology 'politricks'.
We Jamaicans are now engulfed in this disenchanted squabble, that is haemorrhaging the Jamaica Labour Party. I am ignorant of that party's structures and disciplines, if any, but I know that the main players in this fracas, are public servants and one way or the other, it affects John Public. So we have a right to know, what truth or lies are involved.
If what Pearnel Charles is implying, that the voting delegates list is almost slashed in half, then there must be an explanation. Something smells fishy on Belmont Road.
JLP followers want a change of the old guard to something new, and a different style of politics, but honesty must prevail for true and meaningful success. So the list must be clean and unblemished.
Even though it looks bad on the party, it is good to see that someone like Charles has the guts and 'gumption' to make the debate public.
This might be a do or die for his political career, but if due process can't be achieved at headquarters then I agree with the man, let the highest court in the land decide. And, like Ian Boyne wrote, 'What if Pearnel is right?'
I am, etc.,
