Under-21 nationals too hot for champs Jamalco
published: Monday | November 29, 2004

THE NATIONAL Under-21 netballers on Saturday continued their build-up for next July's World Youth Tournament by registering a crushing 37-23 win over reigning Senior League champions Jamalco, in Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Open League action at the Leila Robinson Courts.

The Joan Cargill-coached girls were picking up their second win in as many Open League games, having beaten Jetsetters 'A' last week.

Laced with players such as Pata-Gaye Thomas and Tameka Stewart, both of whom were a part of the Caribbean Netball Championship success this year, along with regional Under-16 championship winners Jodi-Ann Ffrench, Marion Campbell, Kerise Brown and Kameika Yearwood, the young Sunshine Girls turned in a stupendous performance against a formidable Jamalco opposition.

REGULAR PLAYERS

The Jamalco team was missing regular players Elaine Davis and Under-21 players Romelda Aiken and Nicole Aitkin. Their contingent included shooters Tasha Morgan and Margaret Byfied, national centre Nadine Bryan and national squad member Nicole Murphy.

Young Thomas was a picture of beauty in the centre of the court where she battled hard against her national teammate Bryan while claiming much of the spotlight.

Meanwhile, the other games saw Seneca 'A' mapping out a 42-11 win over Eden Strikers B; Ocho Rios Magics beating Ebony Strikers 'B' 35-12; Friendship going down 11-30 to Jetsetters 'A', Hampshire 'A' thumping Up Park Camp 48-7; Tredegar Park being swamped 23-40 by Ravens; and Alpha 'A' losing 15-18 to Police 'B'.

Blades United were 27-19 winners over Jamaica Fire Brigade, Speg 'C' edged New Kingston Raiders 25-22; Tivoli 'A' drove away JUTC 52-11; Police 'A' arrested Greenwich 56-6; UWI Revolution beat Jetsetter 'C' 34-25; Alexander Strikers lost 25-31 to Braeton; Waulgrovians A were 35-21 winners over Arnett; Ebony 'A' whipped JDF 41-9; Duhaney Strikers were embarrassed 44-6 by Alpha 'A' and Omega thrashed Speg 'B' 32-13.

In other action, Holy Childhood doubled Jetsetters 'B' 22-11, Windalco dumped Waulgrovians 'B' 50-7; Eden Strikers 'A' lost to Torrington Park 18-22; White Horses were beaten 29-12 by Tivoli 'B', Police C disabled Progressive Strikers 23-16; Molynes United 'A' whipped Speg 'D' 36-9
and Red Challenge clipped Springfield 21-20.
