THE EDITOR, Sir:I WRITE in response to an article in The Sunday Gleaner of November 28 by Dionne Rose on 'Betrayed and Stigmatised'. Tears filled my eyes, followed by anger and outrage at the injustice meted out to this family by our society a society which strives to uplift its people.
The principal of the school where the youngest child was turned out only displayed ignorance of the virus for which the child had been tested. Hence I do not believe he/she qualifies for this job.
His responsibility is to ensure each child gets the best education. By the principal's action, this innocent child is deprived of his right.
I trust Kate's employer is continuing to pay her a salary. If this is not so, I implore a civil rights attorney to take up this challenge on behalf of the family.
I reserve my comments on the Church. I doubt they were previously contributing to the welfare of this family.
In closing, I wish to remind Jamaicans that those of us who are free of this virus should be thankful and mindful of the fact that we too, can become victims, even if we have had only one sexual encounter or one partner.
I am, etc.,
