Protecting law-abiding citizens
published: Friday | December 3, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I notice that human rights advocates and activists are very vocal and up in arms in defence of the criminal elements and homosexuals to the point of accusing the government of covering up. The government, in my view, is there to protect decent law-abiding citizens from criminals and immoralities.

I really wonder if the human rights causes would not be better served if they used the opportunity of media coverage and press conferences to call on the criminal elements to lay down their arms and stop the killing of innocent, decent, citizens including the police. In so doing the police would have less confrontation with them, which in a sense would result in less police killings.

They should also advise the homosexuals to retreat to their corners if they want to carry out their dirty acts, and in so doing they would not be preyed upon by citizens who do not detest them but their activities and wish to leave them to the wrath of God. Defences of these groups under the guise of human rights can only promote their activities and bring the nation into disrepute.

I am, etc.,

DUDLEY A. BROWN
