Pleased pensioners
published: Sunday | December 5, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

"YES MY dear I got my cheque it was such a pleasant surprise."

"Yes man, I got my cheque de Government do a good t'ing. I will be writing to tell them thanks."

These are some of the comments of pensioners all over Jamaica as they express their appreciation on receiving a cheque of $5,000 from the Government of Jamaica. That cheque was to "assist in offsetting any expenses incurred as a result of Hurricane Ivan".

NO CRITICISM

I have never heard of a Government taking such a step before and it was noticeable that there was no criticism from the Opposition. It is quite possible that they would have done something similarly creative. We have so much to be thankful for in Jamaica when we observe all the political turmoil and human suffering which exist in so many other countries.

PRAYER

Let us pray earnestly and work diligently for peace in our country, for a reduction in crime and violence and for greater respect and protection of our police and security systems.

"To our leaders, Great Defender, grant true wisdom from above".

May we all have a peaceful and blessed Christmas as we look forward to the New Year with hope and faith.

I am, etc.,

ELSIE SAYLE
