BUOYED BY the large turnout of private and public sector players, Finance and Planning Minister Dr. Omar Davies last night officially launched his campaign to become the next leader of the People's National Party, and possibly, prime minister of Jamaica.

Flanked by his wife, Rose, Dr. Davies told the gathering that having been blessed with a good education and the opportunity to serve as the country's finance minister, he felt the time was right to offer himself for leadership of his party. The venue was Cuddy'z Sports Bar and Grill in New Kingston.

A STRONGER ECONOMY

He asked the gathering, in the form of commitments, to join the team to build a stronger economy, to ensure that all children had access to education, and to help seek an answer to the crime and violence plaguing the country.

The minister was described by Peter Bunting, who chaired the function, as a man of "unchallengeable integrity" who was not afraid to take tough decisions. He said Dr. Davies' performance as Member of Parliament for South St. Andrew was not only exemplary but that the minister had made a difference in the lives of many young people.

The theme for the launch, and which was displayed boldly on pamphlets, was 'Integrity, Passion, Vision... Campaign for Jamaica's Prosperity'.
