Twin of Twins: Paul and Patrick Gaynor
Teino Evans, Staff Reporter
FAST BECOMING popular in the dancehall, identical twins Paul and Patrick Gaynor, a.k.a. Twin of Twins, have been unleashing their talented gimmicks and impersonations of many popular personalities in the public eye. Their subjects range from talk show host Ian Boyne to 'top cop' Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams.
The Gaynor brothers says they recorded a CD entitled Stir It Up: Lords of the Underground Volume I which was self-produced on the Kingston 13 label, but never officially released.
"It seems as if the engineer at the studio where we voiced the song must have run it off, because now di whole Jamaica have it a play," Paul said.
The twins have been around for quite a while, but have been working behind the scenes, writing quite a number of popular songs for some of dancehall's current top artistes.
DOORS OF OPPORTUNITY
"Professionally, we have been artistes for 10-12 years now, but we started out by writing songs for other artistes just so we could open doors of opportunity to get our voices heard," Patrick said.
The twins say they have written songs for Bounty Killa, including War Lord Nuh Business, Likkle Dread Bwoy, Ghetto Gladiator and It's Okay, while they have co-written other songs, such as Man Dem Down a T.G. and Propella with Elephant Man.
Propelled by the recent success of their CD Stir It Up, Twin of Twins are moving away from writing songs for other artistes and focusing more on putting out material on their behalf.
"We enjoy writing songs for other artistes, but the returns were very minimal and now, based on the success of Stir It Up where we imitate the voice of Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams, Bounty Killa, Mutabaruka, Louis Farrakhan and others, we decided that this was our turning point," Paul explained.
The twins say their first musical influences came from Papa San, Tiger and Professor Nuts. They are currently signed to the 'Common Sense' Label and have done songs including My God, Brain Damage and Gullies and Trenches which features Bounty Killer.
Even though these brothers are identical twins, Patrick is described as the calm one, while Paul is the less tolerant of the two. When combined, however, the twins are no-nonsense, hard-working artistes who are dedicated to their love for music.
"Our vision is to bring difference to the music, to speak the truth and speak it ever, however harsh," Paul said.
The twins yesterday launched their brand new CD Stir It Up Volume 5: The Crucifiction of the Ghetto.
