THE EDITOR, Sir: I TERMINATED services with the Jamaica Public Service Company on September 1, 2004. I paid my last bill at this time. A check with the company revealed that disconnection took place on September 2, 2004.
Prior to my request for termination of service, I ran two ordinary lights for two weeks as I was in the process of moving house. Based on the company's estimation, I should use approximately $70.00 of electricity for the two weeks.
At the end of September, I received an estimated bill for $911.24 which should be 25 per cent less than my average consumption for the month. Please be reminded that I no longer have any business with JPS. Astonished, I contacted JPS customer service and was told to disregard the bill and I did. At the end of October, I received a bill charging me for electricity consumed September 20 October 20, 2004 for $2,600.20, which included the previously estimated bill.
It showed that I, who had no further business with JPS, consumed 142 kWh of electricity. Ridiculous! The current reading was 18855. A few days later I received a bill for the period October 20 22, 2004 for $1,028.11. Now the previous reading was 18855 and the current reading was 18873. All this time I no longer do business with this company. So again I contacted the company and was told to ignore the bills, there was a mistake. Absurd! All I now seek from JPS are that my name be exonerated and a refund of my deposit with interest.
I am, etc.,
