TRELAWNY:
A BENEVOLENT organisation, Habitat for Humanity, has built a house for a family in Davis Pen, Trelawny as part of a revolving loan programme.
The family of three, Milton, Andrie Earle and their son Maliek, has been given 10 years to pay the interest free mortgage. The house was built by community effort with almost all the labour given free. The land was given by a cousin to the recipients.
"The house is not free, but is greatly reduced from the prevailing market rates," local organiser, Delzie Murray pointed out. She said others will get benefits based on repayments.
DONATIONS
The house was acquired from a monetary donation to HFH by MoneyGram, a remittance company. General Manager for the remittance company Steve Higgins, who is based in Florida, and who flew down for the ceremony, said his company was happy to be part of such a housing venture. He said this was part of a thrust by Money Gram which will continue.
Lasco Jamaica Ltd. also made a monetary donation to the HFH housing programme. General Manager for its remittance service, Mrs. Jacinth Hall-Tracey also spoke of her company's association with this compassionate organisation. She also made the first month's endowment of a year's donation of Lasco products valued $3,000 monthly.
National Director of HFH, Dr. Lisa Lawrence thanked the donors for their contribution. She gave a brief overview of her organisation, emphasising that it is a Christian organisation, but not limited in its efforts.
