WATERHOUSE BOOKED their place in the December 26 End-of-Round final with Harbour View after routing Constant Spring 4-1, in yesterday's Wray and Nephew National Premier League action at Waterhouse Mini-Stadium.
With Portmore and Tivoli giving close chase entering yesterday's round of games, Shane Edwards' brace in the 21st and 60th minutes ensured Waterhouse's spot, lifting them to 24 points, one behind Harbour View, who were out of action.
BOXING DAY REMATCH
The December 26 meeting between both teams will be a rematch of last year's first End-of-Round final where strikes from Kevin Lamey and Uchechukwu Chinyere sank 'The Stars of the East' 2-0.
But with Harbour View's near flawless performance this season, Waterhouse assistant coach Max Straw said they are wary of them.
"We have to respect Harbour View. They've been playing well," Straw said.
"Both teams will bring a high level of competitiveness to the final," he added.
Damion Powell (52nd) and Roger Rodney (67th) were the other goalscorers for Water-house. After scoring his double, Edwards had a number of chances to get a hat-trick but muffed them.
"I got tired at the end," he commented.
Jermaine Richards scored the lone goal in the 48th minute for Constant Spring, who remained on seven points in 10th position.
DEFENSIVE BREAKDOWN
Constant Spring had some measure of defensive presence in the first half as Waterhouse tried to unravel their 5-3-2 formation. However, with difficulty putting together a series of passes in attack and defensive breakdown in the second period, 'Spring' faltered.
"With three goals against us in the second half, it is clear our defence was better in the first half," said Constant Spring coach Braxton Hyre.
"The team confidence is low," Hyre added of his team which has not won a game since October 17 when they beat Reno 3-1. "Sometimes they're ready to play, sometimes they're flat."
Richards looked impressive, making good turns and was the only player to pose any threat against goalkeeper Demetrio Brown. However, help was not forthcoming.
Hyre added that sweeping changes are on hand for Constant Spring as they await the transfer period next month and try to build a cohesive unit.
"We've been working with some players and come next month we'll pick the best. We need players with commitment and discipline and we're struggling in that department," he said.
