Mona Heights Primary thanks past principal
published: Tuesday | December 14, 2004

By Robert Lalah, Staff Reporter

Jackson

"SHE WAS a dedicated leader, teachers like her are really hard to find," said principal of Mona Heights Primary School, Witon Bishop, speaking about the school's immediate past principal, Shirley Jackson.

Mrs. Jackson is being honoured by the principal and staff of the school for the 32 years of service she has given to the institution. Mrs. Jackson officially retired from the post of principal of the school in June of this year.

TRULY OUTSTANDING

Speaking with The Gleaner yesterday, Mr. Bishop said it was difficult for him to find the words to describe Mrs. Jackson.

"I can't say enough good things about her. She is truly outstanding and it really is difficult to find teachers of her quality," he said.

Joining the staff of Mona Heights Primary in 1971, Mrs. Jackson would over the years move up the ranks to senior teacher, vice-principal, then principal of the school of close to 1300 students.

"She motivated the minds and bodies of the students with whom she came in contact. She was dedicated, punctual, industrious and firm," continued Mr. Bishop.

Among Mrs. Jackson's main achievements, said Mr. Bishop, was leading the school to first position, for six consecutive years, in the Science Competition sponsored by the Association of Science Teachers of Jamaica.

"Her mark at the school is indelible. We would just like to salute her for the work she has done and also say to her, a very special thank you," said Mr. Bishop.
