THE EDITOR, Sir:I USE this medium to respond to a letter appearing in your newspaper on Friday, December 3, 2004 titled 'Road Plea'.
In his letter, Wesley N. Levy, JP, Free Hill P.O., St. Mary states, "I am forced to once again bring his attention (Vando Palmer, my emphasis) to a portion of road stretching from a place called Fontabelle through Jacks River into the Oracabessa cross roads".
Mr. Levy also wonders, "why are those roads so badly neglected and why are they left in such a deplorable state of disrepair for months if not years?" He also states that, "Those roads lead to Ocho Rios and are heavily used" and appeals to my, "better judgment to do something for us in regards to these roads".
Mr. Levy's concerns are justified and it is true that the condition of this particular main road is deplorable. This matter was raised at our recent Major Projects Meeting and following those discussions we took a decision to effect temporary repairs to the road in sections.
The badly damaged sections will be filled with marl and a Motor Grader used to spread the marl and shape the road to a proper profile. I must also point out that this main road has been identified for major rehabilitation works, but I am unable to say exactly when this programme will begin. Whenever the date to begin work on this project is decided that information will be made available.
I am, etc.,
