FOR THE seventh year in a row, the national airline, Air Jamaica, has won top honours at the prestigious World Travel Awards.

Air Jamaica was named the 'Caribbean's Leading Airline' at the 11th annual World Travel Awards ceremony in Barbados this weekend. The World Travel Awards employs an online voting system enabling thousands of travel agents and tourism professionals around the world to cast votes recognising excellence in a number of industry categories.

One of the highest honours attainable in the travel industry, the World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge and celebrate exceptional achievements in all areas of the travel and tourism sector.

Air Jamaica's Chairman Gordon 'Butch' Stewart says the award recognises the thousands of dedicated staff who work tirelessly to ensure that Air Jamaica's Lovebird service is unparalleled in the industry. He says that in spite of the difficulties facing the industry, Air Jamaica continues to be a beacon for the Jamaican economy, bringing more than 51 per cent of all airline passengers who come to our shores.

According to Mr. Stewart, Air Jamaica is one of the strongest and most effective Jamaican brands and is one of the biggest marketing tools the country's tourism sector has.

"To have been selected the 'Caribbean's Leading Airline' for the seventh year in a row is a great honour, and I'm proud to accept this award on behalf of all our employees and the people of Jamaica who have given so much support to this airline," said Stewart.

Air Jamaica is also a proud five-time winner of the coveted 'Five Star Diamond Award', presented by The Academy of Hospitality Sciences, a distinction that ranks Air Jamaica among the top airlines in the world. The Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) awarded Air Jamaica its '2004 Crystal Palm Award for Excellence', its most prestigious marketing honour, just last month. Modern Bride has named Air Jamaica 'Best Honeymoon Airline' several times over the years as well.
