THE EDITOR, Sir:RICHARD WAS he young man who wore the shirt at Trafalgar and Hope Roads saying: "May I wipe your windscreen please." Richard was the young man who fathered three boys and ensured that they were properly supported out of his 'windscreen' income.
Richard was the young man who saw to it that these children were taken to church. Richard was the young man who at times wore the Hands Across Jamaica For Righteousness T-Shirt, and handed out the bookmarks with the Motto, Anthem and Pledge.
Richard was the courteous one at the traffic light, who took the lead in changing the modus operandi of his fellow windscreen washers from aggressive demands to respectful service. Richard was a leader. Everyone who had occasion to pass the light daily had to have met Richard.
On Monday, Richard was the one with his name on the next bullet. For whatever reason someone had, he was executed with a bullet through his head. His three boys, without a father will suffer the hardship of living in a country where we have no respect for life.
The murder rate is about leadership. If our leaders do not have the guts to say, the buck stops here, and put an immediate stop to the murder of Jamaican citizens, they have no right to lead us. If they are comfortable to continue to act as if the economy is the benchmark of success and make that their line, they are a miserable failure. Richard is the symbol of the failure of all our leaders.
How can any of our Parliamentarians concede the victory over our land to the murderers and continue to sit in Parliament?. They are a shameful calloused lot who have removed themselves from the reality of the plight of our nation.
I am, etc.,
