THE EDITOR, Sir:THE PROPOSED sweeping changes to the educational system are long overdue. However, let me warn the team of educational reformers that it is going to need people with guts of steel to implement those changes. It is not the first time that we have seen reports of a similar nature on which we pour cold water.
HARSH REALITIES
Educational practitioners like myself must now wake up to the harsh realities of reaping what we sow. Change is never easy to implement for there will always be opposition to any novel idea or ideas. For any meaningful change to be effected to the educational system the stakeholders will have to recognise the benefits to be derived, the school structure will have to change to fit into these innovations and perhaps the roles of individuals within these institutions.
Despite the wind of change that is blowing from every angle, the education task force must bear one thing in mind, that is, change will never take place unless the people within the organisation recognise the need for change. Teachers must be convinced that business as usual is unacceptable and that they have to move out of their comfort zones and create new opportunities for themselves and their clients.
I am, etc.,
