HIGHWAY 2000 has upgraded its digital pre-paid system so that holders of the T-tag toll card can top-up their accounts in the manual toll lane and at the Vineyards Toll Plaza, as well as the newly operational Spanish Town Toll Plaza.
Denis-Francois Durand, general manager of Jamaican Infrastruc-ture Operator (JIO), toll operators of Highway 2000, explained that the move was to make travel on the highway more convenient.
IN-LANE SERVICING
"T-tag holders already have a discount that is automatically applied to their pre-payment, and this newest offer allows in-lane account servicing," Mr. Durand said. "Each T-tag customer gets an automatic warning when there are two payments left on the card, and there is now the option to top-up the account in cash while passing through the manual toll lane in any of the two toll plazas."
New customers who have application forms that they get from the point-of-sale areas, including Toll Plaza offices, will be able to hand in application forms in the toll lane, and pay with cash, and then be issued with card and transponder that can be activated immediately.
"We are in negotiations with a commercial bank to offer payment by credit card at our sales outlets," he said. "This will eventually free the motorist from having to use cash."
The JIO, is responsible for the operation and collection of tolls at the toll plazas as well as road safety and routine maintenance on Highway 2000. The company is currently offering a 50 per cent reduction on deposit on T-tags for new subscribers.
T-tags are especially useful for vehicle fleet management, as owners are able to track the passage of each vehicle through the toll plazas.
