By Barbara Ellington, Claudine Housen and Daviot Kelly LADIES, IT'S time to shop for the scores New Year's Eve balls that will take place all over the island. One popular trend is to make a weekend of it and book into a hotel, slip downstairs for the festivities, sleep in, have a continental breakfast, brush your teeth with some champagne, tell your mate you will love him forever and go home renewed.
So, today and Sunday, we will show you some fabulous gowns from which you can make your selection. On Sunday, you will also get an idea of where to show off the outfits you chose.
We hit the boutiques of Mandeville, Montego Bay and Kingston and made some selections, which we hope will make things easier for you.
GOWNS
Today's gowns are from Addiction Boutique and Exquisite and Bridal Centre in Montego Bay, D'Choix Boutique and Elegant Weddings in Kingston.
These gowns can be worn to the grand balls as well as to December weddings, house parties and cosy get-togethers in your favourite locale.
NEW YEAR'S EVE EVENTS
Montegonians can check out the Round Hill Hotel's ball on property. It is open to locals for a small fee of US$250 (J$15,500). Cocktails will start at 8:00 p.m., followed by a party and then fireworks at midnight.
Ringing in the new year in fine style, Half Moon Hotel will also host a New Year's Eve ball. The venue is the Seagrape Terrace and the event will have songstress Karen Smith as the guest artiste for the evening. Tickets are US $135.00 (J$8,370) and reservations are necessary.
Quietly making waves in the tourism industry is the Sunset Beach Resort and Spa in Freeport, Montego Bay, and this seems to be the party to attend this year-end. Guests will be treated to a delicious meal at six, while artistes will be Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. All this will be captured on CVM Television. Tickets are limited and they come at a price of US$100 (J$6,200.00).
The Gleaner thanks all our models, make-up artists and storeowners who took time out of a busy week to accommodate us.
