FOR A luncheon that was scheduled for the middle of the week, it felt like a Sunday brunch.

Cable and Wireless hosted a get-together for media personnel on December 15 for their hard work during 2004. It was a time to spread Christmas cheer while getting a chance to meet some of the persons who made them look good during the year.

From the media perspective, it was a chance to put the work aside for a couple of hours and have fun before heading back to the newsrooms while matching the names of C&W to faces.

C&W's Director of Corporate Communications Errol 'EK' Miller kept the fairly short programme moving with riddles and trivia that had guests laughing and guessing. He jokingly told the gathering right from the start that they had to sing for their supper so everyone broke into Hark the herald angels sing. Didn't sound too bad but I think we should stick to the day jobs.

Now we all know Christmas is the time of giving and so C&W, not wanting to be left out, offered up some fine prizes but you had to work for it.

ENTERTAINMENT

Entertainment was provided by the versatile Dwight Richards and Friends. The band was superb especially when joined by the dreadlocked performer on trumpet.

Soon enough he took the microphone and did Long time. He said he had 'bonus' for the audience and presented Winsome Benjamin who delivered Young hearts run free and Norah Jones' Don't know why before teaming up with Dwight for Put a little love in your heart.

And the entertainment didn't stop when they passed the musical baton over to Maria Myrie who romanced the audience (and Power 106's Rohan Powell in particular), with her sultry voice. Anyone who wasn't fortunate to win one of the phones, then everyone went home with a gift basket.

Among the media personnel who showed up included RJR's Michael Bryce, Gillian Haughton and Janice Budd; KLAS' Glen McFarlane, Maurice Foster and Dania Bogle; CVM group's Milton Walker, Dara Smith, Nicole Hayles and Michael Pryce; Power 106's Rohan Powell and Naomi Francis; as well as the Observer's Paget deFreitas, Sophia Findlay-Laidley and Erica Virtue.
