Not fair, CWJ
published: Monday | December 27, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MY PHONE line was cut off due to Hurricane Ivan. I made several reports to the company. The line which was disconnected on September 9, 2004 was reconnected on November 24, 2004. The company is charging me for rental during this time and reconnection fee. The line was disconnected due to the hurricane and not because of lack of bill payment. At present, this phone is disconnected. The company states it's because of non-payment of bill. I got a bill to be paid on the January 1, 2005 for $2,116.62 minus $1,360 for rental and reconnection, leaving $756.62.

The only reason why this is happening is because it's one company and we do not have any other choice.

When the light post, which also connects the phone line, was destroyed by a truck because the storm downed them, I reported it to Cable and Wireless and also to Jamaica Public Service. The Public Service responded and reconnected it without additional charge as they realised it was due to the hurricane. Why is Cable & Wireless doing the opposite?

I am, etc.,
