The many drumbeats of Jamaica
published: Thursday | December 30, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

There are many "drumbeats" in Jamaica. Political parties, businesses, churches, artistes and many others all have their own drumbeat. Actually each person has their own individual drumbeat. Some are harmonious. Others discordant. Some lead us astray. Others lead us Home. Several years ago our family, through our books about Jamaica and our One Love Concerts throughout the island, added our own drumbeat.

Beginning on Bob Marleys birthday in 2002, we hosted our first "Gathering of the Healers: The Healing of the Nation" event at Bob's home on Hope Road. Our intention was to assemble well-known Jamaican healers (teachers of One Love) to remind the people of everyone's God-given destiny to be healers in their own lives.

Now, three years and 52 events later, our drumbeat has grown louder more due to the latent power within the Jamaican people rather than to our own limited efforts. In recent years our "Gathering of the Healers" has grown, with many other local "wisdom-keepers" joining their voice, and their vision, with ours. Beginning with the new year, this "Gathering" will be launching various efforts to invite all Jamaicans to heal their lives through One Love, forgiveness and compassion. In addition to several initiatives, we are asking everyone to join us in making Bob Marley's 60th birthday a "a violence-free day", the way he would want his milestone birthday celebrated.

Our goal is a national healing. However, our guarantee is that everyone accepting our invitation will create their own "healed Jamaica".

We are etc.,
