St. Ann.
KUDOS FLOWED at the Breezes Golf and Country Club in St. Ann recently where four educators were honoured for their sterling contributions to the youth.
The four Dorel Hawthorne, Raynes McGregor, Beverley Gordon and Hugo Johnson all teachers at the Runaway Bay All Age School, contributed a total of 86 years of distinguished service to education.
Pat Eves, a university guidance counsellor, said the teachers were like nutrients in a basket of fruits.
Miss Eves, who was delivering the keynote address, said however that they managed to succeed only because of their determination to overcome challenges and implored them to learn new skills in adjusting to the rapid changes in the global environment.
Mrs. Hawthorne who served the school for 30 years will be retiring as vice principal, while Mrs. McGregor who served for 29 years will be retiring as culture agent. Mrs. Gordon will be ending her 16-year sojourn, the latter part of which was as guidance councillor and Mr. Johnson is closing his 11-year reign as a music teacher.
