Paul-Andre Walker, Staff ReporterRIVOLI MADE a competent start to the second round of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League, by stamping their class on newcomers Arlington to come away with a 2-0 win at Prison Oval yesterday.
Rivoli coach Bradley Stewart was happy for the result but said he needed to forego the celebrations bearing in mind the poor results of the first round.
"Obviously, as a team we are elated at the result but we have to temper our excitement because of the under-achievement in the first round," he said.
Stewart was given reason to smile when Gregory Teape opened the scoring for the Prison Oval's first home team in the 58th minute. That smile turned to a grin in the 72nd minute when Reuben Whittaker assured his team of full points with his strike.
Stewart had all right not to get carried away with the excitement of the victory because his team played an Arlington team that lacked any creativity and apart from tackling and marking competently, they never really looked likely to make a difficult contest.
Arlington's attempts on the opposing goal were relegated to speculative efforts from long range with the exception of a chance that Zico Herrera, who had been transformed into a forward during the course of the game, but he hesitated to squeeze the trigger.
Until the 58th minute the game was frustrating for Rivoli, who had the majority of possession but were thwarted by the Arlington back-line and some ill-luck.
