THE EDITOR, Sir:
I THINK it is now time for the National Works Agency to take serious corrective actions to halt further deterioration of the main road in the Glengoffe area of St. Catherine. This roadway is in urgent need of retaining walls, extensive drain cleaning as well as patching.
At places, the roadway is cut in half, and the remaining half is being undermined with each passing rainfall. Houses are being threatened, and motorists are risking their lives travelling on the road on a daily basis.
I'm sure that some damage assessment would have been done and submitted after Hurricane Ivan; the current condition would have been assessed and the danger posed by certain areas would have been noted. But the road has deteriorated further especially since the recent heavy rainfall (27/12/04-30/12/04) and is now almost impassable at some places.
The member of Parliament for West Rural St. Andrew, if he is not aware, must set an early appointment, along with the parish manager for the National Works Agency, to make a visit to the area and travel on the road themselves.
Please do not delay!, Thousands of people depend on this roadway to get to and from work on a daily basis, and if left unattended,
the present condition will only
deteriorate further.
I am, etc.,
RONALD PHELPS
