Double murder in Jones Town
published: Tuesday | January 4, 2005

WITH FOUR days gone into the new year, the country's homicide toll stands at eight.

The latest victims are two teenagers who were shot and killed in the volatile Jones Town community of south St. Andrew.

The teenagers have been identified as Francisco Nedrick, 19, of Nelson Street and Leon McDougal, 16, of Torrington Park. A report from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said that about 3:15 p.m. Monday, residents heard gunshots and summoned the police.

When a team from the Denham Town CIB arrived, the body of McDougal was seen lying in a pool of blood, while Nedrick was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police said 24 persons were murdered last week, while the official number of homicides for 2004 was 1,469, the highest in the country's history.
