Yallahs ford now open to traffic
published: Saturday | January 8, 2005

THE YALLAHS ford, which was flooded by recent rains, was reopened to vehicular traffic yesterday. It was originally scheduled to reopen on January 16.

Work continues on the ford, located at Poorman's Corner in St. Thomas, and crews are aiming to fully reinstate the approach roads at both ends of the ford.

Manager of communications and customer services at the National Works Agency, Vando Palmer, says reinstatement works involve back-filling and compacting the washed out soil and aggregate.

According to Mr. Palmer, the crack in the concrete structure at the ford will also be repaired and the river will be re-channelled.
