Tivoli A face tough task against the Under-21s
published: Saturday | January 8, 2005

THE JAMAICA Netball Associa-tion/Victoria National Building Society Open League is back in full swing today at the Leila Robinson Courts with 20 games running from 2:15 p.m. to the final set of games at 6:45 p.m.

The feature game of the 20-match card is what should be an epic battle between the National Under-21 contingent and last year's Super League runners-up Tivoli 'A' starting at 6:45 p.m.

Tivoli have had a good start to their season but the Under-21s have been in excellent form, thrashing all who have crossed their path in preparation for the Youth World Netball Championships in July.

THE BEST TEAM

In the rubble of destruction lie last year's Super League champions, Jamalco. Incidentally, Jamalco beat Tivoli on two of three occasions last season and showed themselves to be the best team on the circuit. The Under-21s getting by them is a testament to the level of netball that they are playing and Tivoli are next on their list.

At 2:15 p.m., the Jamaica Fire Brigade take on Intermediate champions Arnett Gardens, Windalco are expected to come out victorious over their Up Park Camp challengers, UWI Revolution try to stabilise a rocky season when they play Waulgrovians 'B' and newcomers Torrington Park play against Speg 'D'.

At 3:10 p.m., Omega play against Whitehorses, Hampshire 'A' and Jetsetters 'C' tip off, Greenwich trade goals with Eden Strikers 'B' and Alpha 'B' take on Tivoli 'B' who are eager to prove that last year's Super League performance was not to be mistaken as an indicator of what to expect this season.

At 4:05 p.m., Ravens play the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), Tredegar Park play the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Speg 'C' goes into a duel with Alpha 'A', and the New Kingston Raiders play Hampshire 'B'.

At 5:00 p.m., Police 'A' go up against Jetsetters 'B', Ocho Rios Magics, who have done creditably since coming into the league last season, play Molynes United, Duhaney Strikers try to stand against the might of Jamalco, who have been making everbody pay for their loss against the Under-21s early in the season, and Eden Strikers 'A' play Ebony Strikers 'B'.

At 5:50 p.m., Speg 'B' match up with Police 'B', Holy Childhood play Seneca, Alexander Strikers meet Waulgrovians 'A', and Blades United play Braeton.

BATTLE OF THE NEWCOMERS

While at 6:45 p.m., in the final set of games, Police 'C' play Red Challenge, Jetsetters 'A' face Molynes United 'B' and in the battle of the newcomers Friendship take on Springfield.

Earlier in the week, Molynes United 'B' defeated Progressive Strikers 24-22, Ebony Strikers got by Speg 'D' 21-15, Tivoli 'B' had a good 30-18 victory over Speg 'B', Police 'C' were bested by Friendship 21-23, while Eden Strikers 'A' got the better of the Ocho Rios' Magics 28-18, and Police 'B' were demolished 8-27 by Omega.

In the first set of games to be played this year, Windalco ran out 39-19 winners over Jetsetters 'C', Speg 'C' beat Duhaney Strikers 17-15, JDF and JUTC played to a 22-all draw, and the Under-21s continued to show impressive form with a 35-17 victory over Seneca.
