Murders jump with a third double killing
published: Tuesday | January 11, 2005

åTHE COUNTRY was rocked by its third double murder since the start of the year yesterday.

The latest incident took place in the Hagley Park Road area of St. Andrew, less than 500 metres from the Hunts Bay Police Station.

Those killed have been identified by the police as Ricardo Hemmings, 23, of a Galloway Road address in Kingston 13, and a 22-year-old man known as Dale Spence. The police are unaware of his address.

Corporal Troy Anderson of the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) told The Gleaner that about 8:20 a.m. yesterday, both men were sitting in a motor vehicle at the intersection of Hagley Park Road and Mahoe Drive, when they were attacked and shot.

Mr. Hemmings died on the spot, while Mr. Spence succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the Kingston Public Hospital.

Superintendent Newton Amos, the commanding officer for the Hunts Bay division, said shortly after the shooting the police found an illegal firearm at nearby premises.

SEVEN MORE THAN LAST YEAR

On Sunday night a 27-year-old man and a teenage boy were killed by gunmen at Paradise Street, east Kingston. They were identified as Jermaine Bramwell of Hypolite Road, Rockfort, Kingston 2 and Dilandro Hart, 16, of Paradise Street.

According to police records, 39 persons have been killed since the start of the year. This is seven more than the number of persons killed within the corresponding period last year.
