Forbes orders audit of OCID
published: Wednesday | January 12, 2005

FORBES

Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

LESS THAN 24-hours after Police Commissioner Francis Forbes requested the assistance of Scotland Yard detectives to probe allegations surrounding the abduction of two men by members of the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID), the commissioner has now instructed a senior officer to conduct an immediate audit of the unit.

Reports are that Assistant Commissioner Alrick Lecky, the officer in charge of the Corporate Strategy Plan, have been mandated to carry out the task. The Gleaner understands that he will be looking at the operation of the unit and performance of its members. According to an high-ranking officer who spoke with The Gleaner yesterday, the review will not be 'judgemental'.

ACP Lecky was the same officer who Commissioner Forbes had asked to review the defunct Crime Management Unit's (CMU) performance in its first 13 months. The unit came into being in September 2000.

Less than two years after the review was done, the CMU was disbanded by the retiring commissioner. Mr. Forbes' decision to audit OCID comes two years after he had upgraded the unit to a division.
