ST. JAGO'S Yanique Haye was in dominant form at last weekend's WATA/JC Invitational Track and Field meet at Jamaica College (JC) on Old Hope Road.
Haye, a third-form student at St. Jago High School, won three events in which she took part. Her first came in the girls' 80m hurdles, crossing the line in 11.9 seconds. She then returned to take the Under-14 800m in a meet record time of 2:24.5 and the 400m in 59.6 seconds.
Holmwood's Sonita Suther-land, the World Junior 400m silver medallist, was also impressive. She showed good sprint form when she crossed the line in the girls' 100m in 11.6, the same time as Shelly-Ann Fraser of Wolmer's and Nyoka Cole of Holmwood.
Sutherland also captured the 400m title in 55.2, beating her teammate Jeraine Bolt (55.8) into second. World Junior 200m silver medallist Anneisha McLaughlin (58.2) was fifth.
Anthony Briscoe of Holm-wood took the boys' Under-15 400m in 51.1.
In the girls' 100m, Samantha Henry of Queen's took the Class Two event in 11.6 seconds, beating Nicole Wilson of Vere (11.7). CARIFTA Games Under-17 sprint double champion, Schillonie Calvert of Holmwood (12.3), was relegated to 10th position in the time final event.
In the boys' 100m, Tarik Edwards of Wolmer's, Shevor Clarke of Calabar, Jerome Blake of JC, Nester Carter of Manches-ter and Alex Graham of Corn-wall all recorded time of 10.6 seconds in the big boys' event.
In Class Two, Triston Taylor of Central high won in 10.7, while Khorey Spaulding of St. George's took Class Three in 11.3.
Tameka Williams of Queen's (12.0) won Class Three of the girls' dash, while Manchester's Coleenie Spencer (12.5) took Class Four. Denesha Morris, who won the sprint double in Class Four at Champs last season, stepped up into Class Three this season, but finished behind Williams.
RECORD TIME
Manchester's Natoya Goule carried her road form on to the track by winning the girls' 3000m in a meet record 10:29.1, this ahead of Stacey-Ann Bell of Vere (10.37.3). Ameal Hanson of Bridgeport won the boys' 5000m in 16:28.5 ahead of Kemari Stevens of Lewisville (16:42.3).
The girls' Class One 100m hurdles went to Latoya Greaves of Queen's in 14.3, but it was Class Two winner, Natasha Ruddock of St. Jago, who shone the brightest over the sprint obstacles. She ran 14.1 for the best time of the day.
David Powell of JC won the Class One boys 110m hurdles in 14.0 seconds. Andre Collins took Class Two in 14.5.
In the girls' Class One 800m, Stacey-Ann Bell came out on top, taking the event in 2:20.8 ahead of Holmwood's Cassandra Powell (2:22.7) and Edwin Allen's Jody-Ann Richards (2:23.1). The boys' event went to Dale Dunn of Wolmer's 1:59.6.
In the long jump, Kathie-Lee Laidley of St. Andrew High (1.50m) won in Class Four; Alicia Collins of Holmwood (1.60m) won in Class Three, ahead of Terri-Ann Grant and Pia Phillips of Immaculate (1.60m); Claudia Calder of Alpha (1.65m) and Anna-Kay Campbell of St. Andrew High (1.65m) were the winners in Class Two and One respectively.
Calabar's Akeil Facey took the Class One boys' high jump with a leap of 1.93; Chad Brown of Campion (1.75m) topped Class Two, while Machel Baker of St. Jago (1.71) took Class Three.
In the girls' long jump, Holmwood's Rose-Marie White produced an impressive 6.11m to win in Class One; Kimberley Williams of Vere (5.88m) was victorious in Class Two; Kadian Samuels of St. Jago (5.31) in Class Three and Tanya Bryan of St. Jago (5.77m) in Class Four. Alain Bailey of KC took the boys' Class One section, leaping 7.02m, while Michalous Gordon of Calabar (6.44) was victorious in Class Two.
In the discus, Anna-Kaye Robinson of St. Jago threw 32.30m for victory in the Class Three event; Latanya Nation of Edwin Allen won Class Two with 36.10m; Phelecia Reynolds of St. Hugh's took Class One in 41.17m.
St. Jago's Steve Hammond continued to prove his class in the big boys' discus by winning that event with a throw of 52.77m. Sean Samuels of Calabar took the small boys event in 14.73. Bridgeport's Camoi Hood threw 16.71 for honours in the boys' shot put.
