published: Wednesday | January 12, 2005

CAMPION COLLEGE and St. Andrew high crowned themselves Cable & Wireless All-Island Badminton Schools' League champions on Saturday at the G.C. Foster College.

In the male final, Campion defeated arch-rivals Haile Selassie 3-0, while St. Andrew High stopped St. Hugh's 3-0 in the women's equivalent to retain their crown.

Campion, who won the All-Island title for the first time, defeated rural runners-up Munro College 3-0 in the semi-finals, while inner-city-based Haile Selassie outclassed rural cham-pions Manchester High 3-1 to set-up a Corporate Area school showdown.

In the third place play-off, Munro defeated Machester 3-1.

Meanwhile, in the girls' semi-finals, Corporate Area schools St. Hugh's and St. Andrew maintained their dominance over their rural counterparts, beating Bishop Gibson and St. Hilda's 3-1 and 3-0 respectively.

In this third-place play-off, Bishop Gibson defeated St. Hilda's 3-2.
