THE UNITED States Embassy in Kingston is warning Jamaicans to be on the lookout for persons who may scam them of thousands of dollars under the guise of helping them obtain a valid U.S. visa.
In a release Thursday, the embassy warned the public to be careful when dealing with individuals, companies or web sites that claim to offer assistance to obtain U.S. visas.
It is advising the public that the only way to get a valid US visa is to pay the required fees and attend the interviews at the consular section of the embassy.
NO FEES
The embassy said the fraud may be done via individuals who will pose as 'consultants', 'advisors' or 'visa brokers' to the U.S. Embassy, claiming to have special access to the consular section and to provide various visa services for extra fees.
"The U.S. Embassy does not employ such consultants, advisors or brokers and prospective applicants who wish to apply for visas should avoid paying strangers fees for these types of services," the release said.
The embassy warned people wishing to work in the U.S. under the temporary worker programme should avoid businesses or individuals that charge very high initial fees to the applicant to obtain a temporary work visa.
