Mayor Desmond McKenzie faints
published: Tuesday | January 18, 2005

McKenzie

THE HARDWORKING Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Desmond McKenzie, fainted at his Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation's (KSAC) offices in downtown Kingston yesterday morning.

After briefly passing out before eyewitnesses in his office, the Tivoli Gardens councillor was rushed to Trafalgar Medical Centre, where his personal physician, Dr. Kenneth Baugh, who is also a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) member of Parliament, examined him.

Dr. Baugh confirmed reports that the Mayor fainted in his office. "That report I got from an eyewitness was that he fainted and passed out briefly in his offices," he said.

Dr. Baugh's preliminary diagnosis attributes the mayor's passing out to fatigue. However, Dr. Baugh was reluctant to make a diagnosis of the mayor's illness until the results of tests are made available within the next 24 hours.

"I have seen him, examined him and sent him home to rest. He is exhausted; a lot of what happened may be due to exhaustion," reasoned Dr. Baugh.

Mayor McKenzie has worked assid-uously since being elected in 2003, to serve as mayor of the twin-parish municipality of Kingston and St. Andrew. He has led his KSAC adminis-tration in an all-out assault against ille-gitimate billboards, illegal vending and roadside garages, among others initiatives, in a bid to restore the Corporate Area to its former glory.
