God is the answer
published: Wednesday | January 19, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS IS another appeal to the prime minister, the leader of the Opposition, the president of the PSOJ and all regulatory bodies to announce a national day of prayer and fasting.

Weekly we hear the call and nothing is been done about it. So far we have changed ministers of Justice, commissioners and even governments and it does not make a difference. It doesn't matter who is in charge, but if we do not seek to look to God for pardon and mercy then we will get nowhere.

As a people we have turned from God and as such, we are reaping the benefits of our actions. It has happened in other countries before where disorder and lack of love and a scourge of crime took over the land and the people wrapped themselves in sackcloth and ashes like back in the days of the Bible and went into the hills and prayed and in no time God sent them pardon and recognisable changes were seen.

Jamaica, if we will humble ourselves and pray and turn from our wicked ways then will JESUS hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land. We need a day set aside just for praying and fasting for our nation. We need to close all schools and offices, shut down the entire country for a day to regain control.

We pay much attention to achievements by our sports personalities in showing them our appreciation, but how much time do we give back to God? Yes, we need to pray in the confines of our homes but until we realise how serious this curse upon our land is then we won't get out to the hills and pray. Let's not compromise our values to keep our jobs or friendships or just to find favour with others. Remember God is watching us.

May God continue to bless our beautiful island.

I am, etc.,

M. GARRICK
