Think before you act, teens
published: Saturday | January 22, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT SEEMS to me that teenage girls resort to abortion primarily because of fear. Fear that they will not be able to finish their education; that they will not be able to support their child; that they will be looked down upon by the community. Fear of what their parents will say.

The rationale behind such fears is justified. However, young men and young women in this society need to think before they act. Oftentimes teenagers put themselves in situations that lead to unplanned sex and, subsequently, unwanted pregnancies. Teenage boys in our society need to act far more responsibly toward girls. Teenage girls should learn to resist the 'lyrics' put to them by young men whose primary aim is to use them sexually.

Teenage girls/boys in our society need to put their education first.

I am, etc.,
