Don't blame God
published: Sunday | January 23, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FURTHER TO Mr. Ian Boyne's comments regarding the tsunami tragedy ('Where was God?'). For those of us who are Christian-inclined, there is indeed a reason why God permits such undesirable occurrences. God's sovereignty and right to rule the world was brought into question at the 'Garden of Eden rebellion'. He then handed over rulership to the challenger (Satan) so all creatures then and now would see how it works out until he is ready to clear his name.

THE WICKED ONE

It is obviously not God who is ruling the world as the scripture at 1 John 5:19 says the world is lying in the power of the wicked one. (New World Translation). A man once told me that the wicked one meant all of us but, that's another story. And in view of thousands of people dying does the Bible not speak of a resurrection of the dead?

Instead of blaming God when disasters strike, what we could do is express sympathy for those who lost loved ones and/or property, mourn for the thousands of lives lost and keep thanking God a tsunami has not hit the Caribbean in general or Jamaica in particular, yet.

I am, etc.,
