Phillips, Thomas off to Britain
published: Monday | January 24, 2005

DR. PETER Phillips, minister of national security yesterday, left the island for the United Kingdom with a 10-man delegation, including new Commissioner of Police, Lucius Thomas, to meet with Scotland Yard.

Donovan Nelson, communications adviser to the minister, told The Gleaner that Dr. Phillips would return to the island on Thursday. He said while there, the minister would be meeting with Sir John Stevens, commissioner of the Metropo-litan Police Force of London, to discuss security issues.

He is also expected to meet with the hierarchy at Operation Trident, a special Metropolitan Police initiative to tackle gun crime among London's black communities. Operation Trident also has a particular focus on drug-related shootings.

The security minister is scheduled to meet with the Jamaican diaspora community, said Nelson. Other members of the delegation include Gilbert Scott, permanent secretary in the ministry as well as technical personnel from that ministry.
