published: Tuesday | January 25, 2005

O'Meally Nelson

DR. BLOSSOM O'Meally Nelson, postmaster general will be the guest speaker at this month's Job Creation Awards Ceremony to be held today at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel.

Four companies will be awarded at this month's breakfast ceremony. Two small business awards will be presented to Rum, Roast & Royals and Mr. Job. The award for the creation of 25 and more new jobs will be presented to Island Grill. The Jamaica Biscuit Company Limited will be acknowledged for creating and sustaining employment for a period surpassing 70 years.

NEW PARTNERSHIP

According to Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) president Beverley Lopez, the PSOJ is happy to partner with Cable & Wireless Jamaica in this venture which aims to encourage entrepreneurship and job creation. "We see this as an initiative, which recognises firstly, the people who are being employed and secondly, the companies who are able to create these new jobs. Job creation is critical for our country's continued economic development," Lopez said.

OTHER AWARDEES

Companies which have created a minimum of 25 new employment opportunities within the last six months are recognised at this event. Also recognised are entrepreneurs/small business companies that have created a minimum of five additional jobs, and companies that have been creating employment for seventy years and more.

The public is invited to make nominations for these awards by contacting the PSOJ. However, the PSOJ reserves the right to make the final selection of recipients for the awards through a PSOJ-nominated selection committee.
