Exotic bets prove elusive
published: Tuesday | January 25, 2005

Jockey Shane Ellis produces 9-1 outsider EXOTIC GLOW (number four) with a smooth run outside rivals to win Saturday's 1820-metre seventh race at Caymanas Pasrk.

WITH The fancied horses falling like ninepins at Caymanas Park on Saturday, the exotic bets, not surprisingly, eluded punters.

The Pick-9, which started anew on Saturday, has a carryover of $500,000. There were consolation payouts of $18,934.00 each to four punters with six of nine winners.

Super-6 players did not fare much better. Prizes of $12,712.00 each were won by 12 punters with five of six winners. The carryover to this Saturday stands at $572,035.50.

Not to be left out was the Hi-five in the closing race won by 5-1 chance ASK JOE. This had no takers and the carryover stands at $169,401.70.

ASK JOE completed a sparkling three-timer for jockey Clive Lynch, who has been riding in fine form since the start of the new season. The 34-year-old jockey has taken over sole leadership in the standings with eight winners, two ahead of champion jockey Trevor Simpson who experienced a rough day and could only muster one winner the 3-5 favourite BUTCHER MAN in the second race.

DOUBLE FOR THREE TRAINERS

Three trainers saddled two winners each. Former champion Wayne DaCosta posted PASSA PASSA (6-1) and super fit HEARTOFAMAVERICK (9-2) but stable jockey Simpson was not aboard any of them, preferring instead to ride the more fancied stable companions JACK BE GOOD and LADY KAYLA, both of whom disappointed.

Richie Todd also saddled two winners in 10-1 chance RED GENERAL and PRODIGAL SON at 5-2 in the day's feature for the Colin Melhado Memorial Cup. And Ryan Darby followed suit with LUCKY PLUCKI (5-2) and HAIL THE I (5-1).
