A 10-WOMAN strong contingent from both the Rastafarian and Christian faiths launched their campaign to 'heal' the nation yesterday at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

The less than two-week old group, which is chaired by Elaine Wint, proclaimed to be divinely appointed and is calling the nation to take action in taking back Jamaica from the negative forces.

"We feel we are called for a purpose, we are vessels through which this message is coming ... we don't have the Jamaica we want, but we have the Jamaica we deserve," said Ms. Wint.

The launch ceremony commenced with the saying of the national anthem as a prayer, during which they chanted portions of the song. The women spoke passionately about stopping the violence that has crippled the island. They made reference to the four children that were murdered in St. Mary yesterday morning and said the madness must stop.

SCEPTRE

This initiative appealed to women to play their part. "We feel that women have not carried the sceptre as they should," said Ms. Wint. An apology, a message and a call to action was read, during which some of the women in the group wiped tears from their eyes while others fiercely fought back the tears. The call to action was read by Yvonne Coke and was requesting that all Jamaican women take part in three days and three nights of prayer and fasting, from March 11 to March 13. Also, a request was made for a contribution from the fast to "feed the hungry", "clothe the naked" and "provide shelter for the homeless".

The apology was addressed to the Creator "for all the ways that we have recklessly separated ourselves from You and each other ..." The message was entitled 'One Love Rebirth of the Nation' and sought to address the way forward. "We can no longer continue to neglect our duty ..." read a portion of the message.
