STATHS mourns after murder of grade 11 student
published: Tuesday | February 1, 2005

By Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

Students and teachers at the St. Andrew High Technical School (STATHS) in Kingston, were in a sombre mood yesterday, as they mourned the tragic death of 16-year-old Kemoy Walters, a grade 11 student, who was sprayed with bullets by men with high powered weapons.

"The boys in his class were so traumatised that we send them home very early and asked them not to come tomorrow (today)," said Curline Christie, the school's principal.

Other classes were also affected by the incident.

"We had to send home another group of students who were informed that one of their relatives was also shot," the principal said.

Reports are that Kemoy was a trying student who lost his mother two years ago. The existence of a father is unknown and he was therefore being cared for by an elderly woman in the Seventh Street area of Greenwich Farm. He would do odd jobs on the weekends and in the evenings to pay his school fee and provide for himself.
