THE JAMAICA Fulbright-Humphrey Alumni Association (JFHAA) held a farewell reception to honor United States Ambassador Sue M. Cobb for her work in advancing educational initiatives and exchanges in Jamaica on Monday.
The reception, which featured farewell remarks from JFHAA president Dennis Hickey, Eisenhower Fellow Morin Seymour, head of the JFHAA scholarship committee Dr. Winston De La Haye, and JFHAA treasurer Yvonne Gunning, ended with a special presentation to Ambassador Cobb.
Since she took office, the U.S. government has sponsored more than 40 U.S.-Jamaica academic exchanges through the Fulbright or Humphrey Fellows programs.
She also led the U.S. Embassy to partner with Grace Kennedy to provide math textbooks for primary school students across the island in 2004.
Ambassador Cobb and her husband, Ambassador Charles Cobb, have played a critical role in developing educational exchanges in Jamaica, providing an endowment fund for Jamaicans at the University of the West Indies (UWI) and at the University of Miami in Coal Gables, Florida.
In addition, the Cobbs have committed funds to support the American Friends of Jamaica Foundation (AFJ) in an endowed AFJ/Cobb Family Lecture series at UWI.
The Fulbright Program is an international exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government.
