Bring back hanging
published: Thursday | February 3, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir: WE HAVE recorded over 140 murders since that start of the year including innocent children. Drastic situations call for drastic measures and the PNPYO is calling on Government to resume hanging immediately.

We need to send a message that enough is enough. We do not believe that by itself hanging is enough to solve our nation's crime problem, but we owe the families of victim's ultimate closure for their ultimate loss. If you take a life, you should be fearful of losing yours.

To the families of the children who died last month, the PNPYO expresses our deepest sympathy and we pray that the Lord will make your healing quick and painless. To those who committed these acts, we say you will be caught and the heaviest hand of the law will be brought to bear. We ask the government to declare a national day of mourning in recognition of these children and their families. To the police, our country is united around one common wish and that is, the perpetrators of these crimes will be caught and punished severely.

I am, etc.,

ANTOINE NEMBHARD

General Secretary-PNPYO
