Court stops air traffic controllers strike
published: Sunday | February 6, 2005

The Supreme Court has issued an injunction barring the air traffic controllers from continuing strike action that began yesterday morning.

The injunction, which was delivered yesterday afternoon, bars the workers from taking any further industrial action for the next 30 days.

The disgruntled workers stayed off the job to back their demands for a wage increase, after negotiations broke down with management.

In the interim, Torrance Lewis, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that if the air traffic controllers remained off the job, management personnel would continue to man the air traffic controls.

Mr. Justice Basil Reid granted the order yesterday after hearing an application brought by the Minister of Labour, Horace Dalley. Government lawyers Patrick Foster and Catherine Francis from the Attorney-General's Department, argued on behalf of the Labour ministry.
