NATIONAL 400M indoor record holder, Sandie Richards, finished second in her pet event at Friday night's 98th Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Richards, the 1993 World Indoor 400m champion, stopped the clock in 55.40 seconds. Richards trailed American Olympic and world championships 4x400m gold medallist, DeeDee Trotter, who won in 53.94 to the line.

In describing her race, Trotter, said, "It was very exciting." She continued: "I feel like it was a pretty good race for my opener."

"The track is definitely something to get used to. I would kind of like to do it again because there were some surprises I wasn't ready for," she explained. Some of the surprises were the turns.

OTHER ATHLETES

Nicole Leach of Philadelphia (55.96) and Kia Davis of Holyfield International (55.97) were the other athletes who faced the starter.

Meanwhile, Vonette Dixon, the 2002 Commonwealth Games silver medallist, was third in the women's 60m hurdles.

Representing Adidas, Dixon's time of 8.02 seconds saw her placing behind Linda Ferga-Khodadin of France (8.01) and Danielle Carruthers (8.02).

In the women's 60m, Angela Daigle (7.22) defeated Shaunta Pelham of Holyfield International (7.29), American 100m champion LaTasha Colander (7.30) and Olympic Games 200m silver medallist Allyson Felix (7.37).

The men's 60m went
to Leonard Scott in 6.59. Mardy Scales (6.61), Terrence Trammell (6.64), Marcus Brunson (6.67), Allen Johnson (6.69) and Darvis Patton (6.75), completed the all-American field.

Berhanu Alemu (1:53.44) and Hazel Clark (2:06.00) were the respective winners of the male and female 800m.
